Emily Retsas is a bassist from South Australia specialising in contemporary performance. She has been performing, recording and touring interstate and overseas and has played bass for artists such as Shirley Manson(Garbage),Fiona Apple, Boygenius, and Death Valley Girls. She currently plays bass for Phoebe Bridgers and Better Oblivion Community Center.
Emily’s bands have played on huge stages including Outsidelands, Pukkelpop (BE) Øya Festival (NO), Haven Festival (DK) Desert Daze Festival and Desert Stars Festival. As well as appearances for Conan O’Brien, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Last Call with Carson Daly, KEXP Radio, Tiny Desk NPR, Google and Spotify.
Most of Emily’s time is devoted to musical pursuits, making sure all areas of her career reflect that passion. Her past workplaces include: The Great Escape, Warner Music Australia, Five/Four Entertainment, Falls Festival, Parklife, Big Day Out, Soundwave and Laneway Festival and Reverb.com
Emily also spends her time mentoring young female musicians; she teaches an all-girl rock ‘n’ roll class at Northern Sound System in Adelaide’s outskirts and mentored at the LA arm of Rock n Roll Camp for Girls. She currently resides in Los Angeles.
